5th edition of Animax – Skopje Animation Festival

The fifth edition of Animax – Skopje Animation Festival opened on November 5 and  lasted until November 8, with activities taking place at Cinema Frosina, Youth Cultural Centre (MKC) and Cinematheque of Macedonia.

The festival brings together around 50 films out of which seven films intended for young audiences, selected out of a record number of 427 submissions from all over the world, a great number of which are winners of prestigious awards. The selected films  traditionally competed for the Golden, Silver and Copper Brick Award. The children also decided which of the films for young audiences will receive a Golden Brick Award for Best children animation film. The Mayor of the City of Skopje awarded the Special plaque to the Spanish artist Didi Rodan. As part of its program, the festival also hosted 4 workshops, which were held within the premises of the Cinematheque of Macedonia, Cinema Frosina, Youth Cultural Centre (MKC) and the Macedonian Film Agency.

Out of the films which are supported by the Macedonian Film Agency, the festival awarded the animations "The Girl Who Falls" by Vladimir Lukash with a Special Mention by the jury and "The Round Trip:Mary" by Zharko Ivanov with the Silver Brick Award.

Animax Skopje Fest” is the first animated film festival in Macedonia. The festival is organized by the production company “Auripigment”, in collaboration with the Association of Citizens Creative Center “Tintiri - Mintiri” - Skopje, with the support by the Macedonian Film Agency and the City of Skopje in partnership with the Cinematheque of Macedonia and the Youth Cultural Centre (MKC). It is a unique opportunity to present local Macedonian creative potential and the audience to get a clear picture of what is currently in Macedonia created in this field. The festival is by nature competitive and is open to animators from around the world.
