Macedonia Presented At Berlin International Film Festival
The Macedonian Film Agency, Macedonian films as well as film professionals are once again part of the 66th edition of International Berlin Film Festival which takes place February 11-21 in Berlin, Germany.
At the European Film market which is held within the festival, the Macedonian Film Agency actively promotes Macedonian films expected to premiere this year: “Amok” by Vardan Tozija, “Liberation of Skopje” by Rade Sherbedzija as well as Svetozar Ristovski’s successful film “Lazar”. The Agency also presents the advantages the country offers as a favorable shooting destination and the 20% right of refund for the making of film or television projects, a measure which has been successfully implemented since its adoption with the Film Industry Law.
Within its activities, the Macedonian Film Agency also presents the film industry in the country and actively participates in numerous events that are of particular importance for the further film industry development as well as organizes meetings with international institutions, organizations, festivals and other film professionals, expected to result in future collaborations and projects in the field of cinema.
BPX - Best Practice Exchange – February 12, 2016
On February 12 the Macedonian Film Agency CEO, MRS Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska took part in the international gathering of 20 most progressive film funds from Europe and beyond which was held at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin.
The international gathering was organized by Simon Perry (President of ACE) and was aimed to facilitate the participants to exchange ideas and experiences on different national strategies implemented in the film industry in accordance with new European and world trends.
Creative Europe MEDIA Sub-programme
At this year’s Berlin Film Festival, Macedonia through the Macedonian Film Agency for the first time attended the regular official meeting of Creative Europe MEDIA Sub-programme.
During the meeting, the representatives from the Macedonian Film Agency had the opportunity to meet with the persons responsible for the support programs who are published within the MEDIA Sub-programme each year, and held several meetings with commissioners from other MEDIA desks.
The Macedonian Film Agency will be the body in charge of the Macedonian MEDIA Desk, in accordance with the already signed contract with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia. The Desk is expected to officially start its operation in early March.
Official meeting with Giffoni Experience
On February 13, the Macedonian Film Agency CEO met with Claudio Gubitosi, Director of Children’s Film Festival Giffoni Experience-Italy. During the meeting, they agreed to continue the professional cooperation in the future, and having in mind the success of the previous editions of the festival, it was agreed that Macedonia will continue to use the Giffoni brand for free.
Screening of „AMOK“ at European Film Market
“Amok”, Vardan Tozija’s debut feature film, had a screening within the EFM on February 16, 2016 (Tuesday) at the Parliament, at 11.30 am.
The European Film Market, which is organized each year during Berlin International Film Festival, is always attended by a large number of producers, distributors, financiers and festival selectors from around the world, and is considered as one of the most important international events in the film industry.
The presentation of "Amok" at the European Film Market is organized by the Macedonian Film Agency, and the film in Berlin will be presented by director Vardan Tozija and producer Ognen Antov (Dream Factory).
Cinematographer’s Film Festival
International Cinematographer’s Film Festival “Manaki Brothers” in partnership with Eye on Films, organized a cocktail within the Berlin Film Festival on February 14, attended by a number of film professionals.
Director Dina Duma at 2016 Berlinale Talents (February 13-18, 2016)
Macedonian director Dina Duma is one of 300 selected participants from 79 countries at the 14th edition of “Berlinale Talents”, platform for new, emerging talents.
The program, taking place February13-18, will feature over 100 activities and events. Berlinale Jury President, actress Meryl Streep will be one of around 150 internationally renowned experts holding masterclasses and workshops.
The 2016 group is comprised of professionals from the fields of directing (132), producing (63), acting (17), screenwriting (10), cinematography (20), editing (15), production design (12), film criticism (8), sales and distribution (9), sound design (6), and score composing (8). Aside from offering the opportunity of networking and establishing collaborations with potential international partners, the program also focuses on development of selected film projects.
