Macedonian Film Agency Director Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska Participated at a Regional Forum Within "Golden Rose" FF in Varna, Bulgaria
The 34. edition of "Golden Rose" Film Festival which took place September 19-25 in Varna, Republic of Bulgaria featured as part of its Open Horizons Programme a screening of the feature film "Lazar", co-production between Macedonia, Croatia, Bulgaria and France directed by Svetozar Ristovski and "Banat", a co-production between Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia directed by Adriano Valerio, supported by Republic of Macedonia as a minority project.
A meeting took place within the festival in organization of the Bulgarian National Film Centre, attended by the Macedonian Film Agency's director Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska, Elektra Venakri - director of the Greek Film Centre, Kamen Balkanski - direcor of the Bulgarian National Film Centre, Stefan Dobroiu - Romanian film critic, Darko Basheski - Macedonian film expert, Gergana Dakovska - co-production expert and other representatives from the National film centre.
The purpose of the meeting was for the participants to exchange film practices applied in the neighboring countries, to present the opportunities of regional co-productions and to examine the co-production benefits and the possibilities for support of regional co-productions by film funds and centres which are of great significance for Balkan cinematographies.
The participants also discussed the possibilities of maintaining the fund of SOUTH EAST EUROPEAN CINEMA NETWORK which offers suport for the development of short and feature films, the new ways of attracting funds, distribution mechanisms and mechanisms for stimulating the investments in the film industry such as tax incentices and film commissions - which have the potential to attract foreign productions.
They also discussed the possibility of creating a Balkan film fund for co-production support. The Macedonian Film Agency director, Ms Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska pointed out that a memo deal has already been signed on the initiative for establishing the Balkan Film Fund (BCC) which will offer support for film projects regardless of the funds they are receiving from their national film funds and centres.
