Macedonian Film Fund At Cannes Film Festival

15/05/2012

For the third consecutive year, the Macedonian Film Fund will be taking part at this year’s 65th edition of Cannes Film Festival (16-27 May), presenting the Macedonian cinematic output to the rest of the filmmaking community, thus promoting the country as a film location which provides low income taxes and guarantees the most favorable conditions for filmmakers.

Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Serbia, Cyprus and Albania will all join forces in the presentation and promotion of South-Eastern European cinema at the regional pavilion of South-Eastern Europe (SEE Pavilion), as part of this year’s Cannes Film Market (Marche du Film). The Cannes Film Market, dubbed as one of the largest and most prestigious film industry trade markets in the world, is an annual meeting place of a vast number of producers, directors, festival programmers, sales agents, and other film industry professionals.

The Film Market will host screenings of three Macedonian films: Teona Strugar Mitevska’s “The Woman Who Brushed off Her Tears” (19 May), Aleksandar Popovski’s “Balkan Is Not Dead” (20 May ) and “The Third Half” (21 May), directed by Darko Mitrevski.

The Macedonian producer on the move, Robert Naskov from the production company Kino Oko (which took part in the making of “The Third Half” and “Balkan Is Not Dead”), will join 24 producers from across Europe that will be taking part in the European Film Promotion’s programme Producers on the move 2012.
